Temoin on H2r of Jew of Malta suggests it was previously unbound or in a larger binding.

Provenance notes: Probably acquired in the 17th century by Algernon Percy, 10th Earl of Northumberland; bound around 1750 by the Earl of Egremont; and embossed with the Percy arms in the 19th century. Entered National Trust in 1947 as payment in lieu of inheritance tax.

Marginalia: On front pastedown: "18/4"; "2: 6. 25"; "I 7.1"; "F 5. 1"; MS table of contents on verso of front flyleaf; inscription on G3v, upside down, in a 17C hand: "Niccolas ffass the [trimmed] / is base."

Binding: Gilt centrepiece on both covers: crescent moon, surrounded by garter motto with earl's coronet on top. Sprinkled calf, red sprinkled edges, double gilt fillet frame, gilt centrepieces (boxed).
